Over the last six months there has been an angel on our beach. An angel who has helped clean up our little bay. An angel who has saved many lives. An angel who is anonymous.

Will is only three but he knows that littering is wrong. He’s sees a piece of plastic in a drain and states that a dolphin will die eating that plastic. He sees a cigarette butt in a car park and loudly explains what it will do to your lungs. I may be bias but I think he is a smart kid. A kid who is in touch with nature.

Tonight we went down to our local beach to watch the sunset. It’s a beautiful place, a place that is new to our family but feels old to our young bones. Dolphins frequent this bay, we see them all the time. Penguin Island is just on the horizon, it’s home to not only penguins but seals and pelicans too. It’s such a fertile place that whales have been know to bring in their young for a rest on their enormous journey down south.

I have seen this collage of rope grow over the last half year. It has grown from a couple of strands to a blanket of mis matched colours. I’m sure that it has saved lives. The lives of our local marine life.

I just want to say thank you. Thank you for helping me explain to my children why it is important not to litter. Why it is important to pick up rubbish even if it is not your own.
